MARIO JUNG
Since the 1980s, Myung “Mario” Jung has painted richly colored landscapes that delight in seasonal changes and differences in light. A member of the Seoul Artists Association, Jung has almost exclusively exhibited in South Korea. Much of his lush scenery is inspired by visions he had after experiencing a major injury that temporarily blinded and paralyzed him. His artistic style is characterized by his use of impasto. In addition to brushes, he uses cake-decorating tools and kitchen utensils to build up textures in his trees and fields of flowers. His layers can span up to one-inch thick in depth. Based in California, Jung draws inspiration from his local environments, paying particular homage to the beauty of the vineyards that surround his studio.
