My friend and the owner of Haberdashery and Black Chalk Laundry, Jill Elliott.

Some people have a gift for making you feel beautiful before you’ve even tried anything on. My friend Jill Elliott is one of those people.

This year, Jill is celebrating 25 years of Haberdashery, her wonderful boutique on Main Street in Fredericksburg. If you’ve ever walked through the door, you know it’s more than a place to shop. There’s always something unexpected to discover, and Jill has a way of helping you find the piece that feels completely, unmistakably you.

Haberdashery began in March 2001 in a little back room of her father’s music shop. Jill covered the walls with old Fredericksburg newspapers and filled the space with clothing she genuinely loved. Twenty-five years later, the shop has a beautiful home at 221 East Main Street, but it still has that same sense of discovery.

Jill’s fashion sense is all her own: a little classic, a little whimsical, with a wonderful eye for texture, detail, and pieces that have a story. She finds inspiration in her travels and brings together designers from close to home and around the world. Nataya was among the first labels she chose, and it’s one she has continued to carry over the years. You’ll find clothing and accessories for women and men at Haberdashery, all selected with Jill’s personal touch.

And Jill’s creativity doesn’t stop at fashion. She also brought us Black Chalk Home + Laundry, where that same eye for beauty and character shows up in furnishings, textiles, and objects for the home. Whether she’s styling an outfit or a room, Jill makes you look at things in a fresh way.

A Little Well-Deserved Love for Haberdashery

I’m certainly not the only one who appreciates Jill’s wonderful eye for style! Haberdashery has caught the attention of shopping guides, fashion writers, and our local magazine. Here are three lovely reads that give you even more reasons to stop in:

This anniversary feature shares Jill’s journey from a little room in her father’s music shop to the beloved Main Street boutique we know today.

A Woman Who Loves Her Community

What I admire just as much as her style is Jill’s heart for Fredericksburg. She started Locals Night Out to give the people who live here a reason to get together, enjoy our downtown shops and support the businesses that make our community special. That idea has grown into Third Thursday evenings, when local retailers stay open late with shopping, tastings, styling ideas and time to catch up with friends. It’s such a Jill idea: fun, welcoming and good for the whole town.

A small business reaching 25 years is something to celebrate. So is the woman who has spent those years sharing her creativity, cheering on her community and helping people feel confident in their own style.

Jill, I’m so happy for you and so proud to call you my friend. Congratulations on 25 years of Haberdashery! Fredericksburg is more colorful because you’re in it.

Stop in and celebrate with Jill at Haberdashery, 221 E. Main Street. You can also follow the shop on Instagram and Facebook.
