A Hidden Courtyard Gem: Signor Vineyards Downtown

If you’ve spent any time exploring Fredericksburg, you know the charm of finding that one perfect spot to unwind. Mine happens to be right around the corner from my gallery:

My Go-To Wines: Since you asked (and I always get asked), here are the two I keep coming back to:
2020 Grand Péré
A blend of Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Smooth, rich, with cedar, cherry, plum, and blackberry. It’s the one I order when I’m celebrating something.
2022 Chardonnay, Maison Tranquille –
Light and refreshing, with hints of late-summer apricot and lemon-lime that open up to fresh pineapple when it’s warm outside. It’s my go-to on sunny days in the courtyard.
After a good day at the gallery, I’ll often wander over with Wink, my one-eyed Shih Tzu-Pekingese mix, for a glass of wine in their shady courtyard. It’s one of those places that makes you slow down a little, enjoy the moment, and remember why Fredericksburg feels so special.
Why I love it?
When you walk into the new Signor tasting room, it just feels easy. Melissa Estes designed it beautifully, simple, elegant, and comfortable, with soft light and a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. The shady courtyard is my favorite spot, especially on warm afternoons. It really does have that relaxed, southern-France kind of feel without trying too hard — just good wine, good design, and a place you actually want to linger.
The staff is friendly, attentive, and always happy to talk about the wines or help you pick something new to try. Whether you’re there for a casual glass or settling in for a long chat with friends, it feels genuinely welcoming.

A Local Favorite Worth Visiting
If you find yourself in downtown Fredericksburg, stop by Signor’s tasting room — it’s such a lovely addition to the neighborhood. I love that it’s become part of my own routine. On those days when everything falls into place at the gallery, I’ll treat myself to a glass of Chardonnay under the trees while Wink watches the world go by.
There’s something about that courtyard. It is a mix of good design, warm service, and the hum of the town around you that feels exactly like Fredericksburg at its best.
